Create and Update a Custom Field Category

Group custom fields into organised tabs to help find, review, and manage field data faster.

Custom field categories help you group related fields into organised tabs. This makes it faster and easier for administrators to review responses and locate key information.


Create a Custom Field Category

  1. Click Settings > Custom Fields.

  2. Click the Field Categories tab.

  3. Click the Create button. The Create Custom Field Category screen appears:

  4. Enter a Name for the category.

  5. Enter a Sort Order number. This is the numeric order in which the custom field category appears. Lower numbers appear at the top of the list.

  6. Click the Save button.


Update a Custom Field Category

šŸ’”Tip: The General category is a default system setting in Rosterfy and cannot be edited or deleted.

  1. Click Settings > Custom Fields.

  2. Click the Field Categories tab.

  3. Click the More Actions menu on the field category you wish to update.

  4. Click Update. The Update Custom Field Category screen appears:

  5. Update the category Name or Sort Order fields.

  6. Click the Create button to add a custom field to the category. See the Create A Custom Field Inside a Field Category section in the Update a Custom Field article for more information.

  7. Click the Save button.


Assign a Category to a Custom Field

Categories can be assigned to custom fields when creating or updating them. See the Create and Update a Custom Field article for more information.


View Custom Field Categories in User Profiles

In the user profile, each custom field category is displayed as its own dedicated tab. Custom fields assigned to a category appear under their respective category tab, while any uncategorised custom fields are displayed under the general Custom Fields tab.


Sort Custom Fields Within a Category

Custom fields appear inside their assigned category tab in the exact order you set for them. Any changes you make to the field sequence in your management settings are directly reflected within the user profile category tabs.

  1. Click Settings > Custom Fields.

  2. Click the Field Categories tab.

  3. Click the More Actions menu on the field category you wish to update.

  4. Click Update. The Update Custom Field Category screen appears:

  5. Scroll to the Custom Fields section.

  6. Click the hamburger menu next to the ID number and drag to rearrange the order.


Delete a Custom Field Category

āš ļø Warning: Deleting a custom field category is a permanent action and data cannot be restored.

šŸ’”Tip: The General category is a default system setting in Rosterfy and cannot be edited or deleted.

  1. Click Settings > Custom Fields.

  2. Click the Field Categories tab.

  3. Click the More Actions menu on the field category you wish to update.

  4. Click Delete. The following window appears:

  5. Click the Yes button.
